2025 Vallecito Slash Depot Highlights
Every year, the community of Vallecito hosts a slash depot several weekends throughout summer, which allows for a central place for homeowners to bring and chip their slash with the assistant of trained contractors. The event would not be possible without the help of several incredible volunteers. Bill Bishop, Jackie Douglass and Marilyn McCord, the WAP ambassadors for the area, continue to be outstanding in their organizing and implementing of the slash depot! Together, their work totaled 2,192 hours, and they chipped over 717 cubic yards of slash! Wow! WAP values volunteer time at $38.74 an hour, per Colorado State, and we can use this volunteer time to be competitive for grant applications to help more folks do wildfire mitigation. With that, Vallecito contributed a whooping $84,918.08 in volunteer value! How cool is that?
WAP was able to support these efforts through funding available from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and State Farm. Thank you to all volunteers who put in several hours to organize, collect donations, and assist neighbors in getting rid of their slash to make their community safer. Thank you to the Vallecito community for another successful season of doing wildfire mitigation!
