Fire Adapted Durango Partnership and Animas City
Mountain Prescribed Fire

November 2021


 For November’s Fire Council Meeting, Amy Schwarzbach, Natural Resource Manager with the City of Durango, and Deana Harms, Fire Mitigation Specialist with the Bureau of Land Mangement, gave updates on planned fuels mitigation activities around the City of Durango.

Amy gave an update on the activities that have been ongoing over the last two years on city-owned property in the Wildland Urban Interface surrounding Durango. She also presented plans for additional treatments in 2022.

Deana presented on prescribed fire activities for Animas City Mountain that are planned for spring 2022. Deana also provided some additional resources for communities to help spread the word about these planned prescribed fire activities, so that residents are better prepared for possible smoke in the air next spring.
